Role Description / Working Relationships
The Learning Assistant will provide support to lead teachers to design, plan, organize, present and evaluate the classes of meaningful instruction, based on and following the written guidelines of the program curriculum. The person in this role will also work with other teaching staff to reflect, discuss and make suggestions to improve further the program curriculum as well as the overall program.
All learning assistants must make an effort to build a healthy relationship with students and colleagues. All participants are expected to work together to enhance the mission of the Academy.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide support to lead teacher to ensure a safe and stimulating learning environment
Coordinate work among all learning assistants
Coach or supervise in the afternoon program
Chaperone student activity trips
Translation of documents, when necessary
Daily lesson and activity preparation and reflection
Lead daily reflection sessions with students
Model conduct for students in and outside the classroom
Communicate with parents promptly and professionally
Participate in weekly discussion and reflection on curriculum and program
improvements
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Experience & Competencies:
Minimum requirements:
Strong interest in education and seriously exploring teaching as a potential career
Bachelor degree or above
One academic term or equivalent of teaching experience
Proficient in English and Mandarin
Willing to work hard and comfortable with team work
Ability and willingness to see hurdles and challenges as opportunity for growth
Desirable qualities:
Ability to coach a sport or experience of running an extra-curricular activity
International experience
Demonstrated leadership skills
